On Rosh Hashanah we have the custom to eat foods with special
connections. Here are some of them, with suggestions as to why we eat them.
A sweet red apple with honey for a sweet year.
Carrots because their Yiddish name means more, and we want our good deeds to be more.
Pomegranites because they are full of seeds, and we want to be full of good deeds. Also,
people say they have 613 seeds, the same number as the Mitzvot in the Torah which we hope to keep.
Some people put a sheep or fish head on the table, with the prayer that we should be the head and
not the tail.

WEEK ONE
This week's question:
How many notes do we blow on the Shofar each day of Rosh Hashanah?
If you think you know the answer, e-mail it to
kids@ilfordsynagogue.co.uk
before Tuesday 7th September. Please do not
use the Website over Shabbat or Yom Tov. We'll
collect the names of those who give the right answers over the 4 weeks
and then draw the winner. However, we can only give a prize if at least
five different families send in the correct answer over the 4 weeks.
You can send in an answer each week if you want to. Don't forget to
include your name and phone number. The prize will be a book to be chosen
from a selection held by the Shul Office.
Last week's answer:
The first fruits were brought in baskets.
Please keep trying!
